But Jupiter, in love with the prisoner, succeeds in entering her, in the form of a shower of gold. From their union was born Perseus. Our painting illustrates a scene of crazy eroticism, of a daring that only the lightness of Venetian customs could then justify. The splendor of the colors, the uncompromising nudity of Danae and the golden rain - it's more of an eruption than a rain here... - offer us a tasty spectacle that exalts our senses. Jacopo Negretti, son and pupil of Antonio Palma, is above all the heir of his great-uncle Palma il Vecchio.
